As part of my #merch business #research, I’m looking at my favorite #instagram #artists and taking notes on a spreadsheet.
Today’s fave is @DonLeon, who’s got a cute retro-ish #comic #design style. He also may have the best artist website I’ve ever seen – its’ look and feel matches his #art perfectly.
- His designs have a max of 4 colors; his #website matches that with #retro orange & yellow, w/ shades of white & black.
- His header font is his own handmade font (available in his shop for € 7).
- His motto (Being kind & creating good shit, which is AWESOME) is front & center on his home page, looking like a great t shirt design, thus setting expectations.
- His logo is a playful gif of himself, so we get to know him a little bit.
Every section on the home page is relevant to his #business & the order is based on importance:
- Hero area for his motto / vibe / branding
- Some clients, showing he’s available for hire (likely the bulk of his income) and building credibility
- Selected products for sale ($ that goes straight into his pocket)
- About info & Contact form (easy to get in touch for hiring)
- Select portfolio pieces (yes, he’s a good designer)
- IG posts (follow him & hopefully buy stuff later)
And the cherry on top: the mouse pointer is a hand he drew.
My new website #goals are now 100% based on this brilliant website.
