On the left is a #Walmart, valued at $20M, and to the right is a mixed use building in downtown #Asheville valued at $11m.

The Walmart takes up more acreage but is blown away by the downtown building in every other measure: property taxes and sales taxes earned by the city, while providing housing and more jobs per acre.

Healthy municipalities need vibrant, mixed use areas. Suburban sprawl is a waste of land, expensive to maintain (roads & parking lots), and just plain fugly.
