#DaftPunk mixed their first two albums on a JVC #boombox like this. All the standard advice to ‘don’t mix on this or that’ and they used a 10 year old boombox with a simple graphic equalizer.

The lesson: Expensive equipment isn’t necessary; mix on something you use and know well.

And don’t wait until you have the ‘right’ equipment. As #ArthurAshe said,

I remember the day #KurtCobain died so clearly. It was April 5, 1994; I was a senior at #NorthwesternUniversity. I had no classes that day. I woke up, showered, and put on combat boots, brown linen pants, black t shirt & my #SocialDistortion Skelly hat. (Why I recall my outfit I have no idea.) I heard on the radio that they ‘found a body’ in Cobain’s house & didn’t think much of it. I figured somebody had OD’d and maybe it was him – but prolly not because he should be happy with his phenomenal success, no? I walked over to a friends’ apartment. We were hanging out & drinking MGD when the real news came out. We were stunned. I have no recollection what the rest of the day was like, what we talked about or anything. There’s nothing like having the #motivation to do something and then running into repeated unexpected issues that suck the motivation right out of you. I wish all of my technology would just fucking work consistently so I can focus on figuring out my processes for productivity instead of troubleshooting something that was working fine 2 days ago 🤬🤬🤬

A lot of Claire Paniccia’s marketing advice resonates with me because her thing is helping neurodiverse entrepreneurs. As one of her target audience, I’ve tried a lot of Conventional Marketing Wisdom that (surprise) failed and (no surprise) just added to the reasons I have to self-flagellate while making connecting with people feel more like a chore than an interesting or fun thing to do. This bit from her latest newsletter (the image) hits the spot. The idea that I don’t text a friend at a specific time every week is so common sense yet . I recently fulfilled a lifelong dream by running all the way, in the wrong direction, on a people mover in an #airport. When I was a kid I felt too self-conscious but not anymore 😆 I didn’t record the run (I just wanted to enjoy it) but the video has some outtakes, including my kid who had never been on a people mover before. Sometimes #adhd impulsiveness is good for a quick little bonding experience with a kid 🙂 (I did however wait til it was not in use before the run.) #DreamsComeTrue
