Just shared this with my kids. It is good to know how long political things take when it seems like nothing is happening.

It took Biden & his team 6 months to get through Mike Johnson’s skull. Politics & diplomacy are delicate processes and things are rarely as simple as we wish. This was simple vs how complex & multifaceted the situation with Israel, Iran, et al is.

This is also why experience matters. Young pols might talk the talk but getting things done is a completely different ballgame.

After just reacting to requests & urgency in my work for ages I decided to sit down & (over several days) and write out the answers to a bunch of questions that I need to know. What do I like to do? What do I want to do? And I have to write this all by hand because, for whatever reason, when I write stuff down is when I do my best thinking. I recently fulfilled a lifelong dream by running all the way, in the wrong direction, on a people mover in an #airport. When I was a kid I felt too self-conscious but not anymore 😆 I didn’t record the run (I just wanted to enjoy it) but the video has some outtakes, including my kid who had never been on a people mover before. Sometimes #adhd impulsiveness is good for a quick little bonding experience with a kid 🙂 (I did however wait til it was not in use before the run.) #DreamsComeTrue

I’ve gotten deeply into #UrbanPlanning in the last few years, abetted by a lifelong dream of living in #Europe. I discovered #Youtube channels like @nerd4cities@mstdn.social, @notjustbikes@notjustbikes.com, & #CityBeautiful that spelled out what makes places livable & why European #cities tend to be better. It’s changed my mind on where I’d like to live, from ‘I want acres in the country’ to wanting denser populations & walkability – & where city finances aren’t held hostage by parking lots & roads. This #video highlights some good & bad things about #Valencia, Spain (aka my hopeful retirement locale), but what shocked me was the 80% home ownership figure, vs 65% in the US. Americans like me tend to associate #apartments (aka #flats) with renting, but not in Europe. There’s a better way of living, and I’d like to experience it. #CityNerd #NotJustBikes
