Arp Laszlo
Hi, I’m Arp! I got diagnosed with ADHD at 49, and now I'm trying to figure out what's me, what's masking, and just about everything else. I make comics (when imposter syndrome isn't striking) and write about life as a creative Indian-American. I’m self-taught, self-employed, and self-flagellating.

teenage engineering ep 1320
This thing is ridiculous AND I MUST HAVE IT. I’ve long wanted a hardware sampler and the #TeenageEngineering –133 k.o.2 caught my attention for being feature-packed while being usable with batteries to reduce friction. But a version with #medieval #samples takes the cake! Years back I was really into #AgeOfEmpires and #Civilization so I’m tempted to use this to make a soundtrack for the different parts of my life (like when discovering agriculture or when I want to stab a neighboring principality in the back). Go check it out: https://teenage.engineering/products/ep-1320 #MusicProduction #Sampling #MusicTech Photo by Teenage Engineering

X-men 2000 movie poster. The poster is divided into 5 columns, broken up by a black band with ‘X-MEN’ in the middle. Above & below the word, each column shows a partial face of 10 different characters.
We watched the 2000 #Xmen movie last night. The technology was a bit dated, as expected. The cgi was pretty good for the era, but I really wish they’d used a character besides Toad, who I find gimmicky. The story holds up, and holds up a mirror too. I always liked that they went straight for using the Mutant Registration Act as the main storyline instead of an origin tale. Has X-men historically appealed to LGBTQ comic lovers who could relate to their struggles for acceptance? The protests & attitudes against mutants also made me think of the trans community today, and the genocide the GOP & their fascist kin are attempting with all their laws, dog whistles, and stochastic terrorism. The #movie feels quaint, compared to modern times where these people do much, much worse than protest with signs. #movies #comics #comicbooks

I’ve gotten deeply into #UrbanPlanning in the last few years, abetted by a lifelong dream of living in #Europe. I discovered #Youtube channels like @nerd4cities@mstdn.social, @notjustbikes@notjustbikes.com, & #CityBeautiful that spelled out what makes places livable & why European #cities tend to be better. It’s changed my mind on where I’d like to live, from ‘I want acres in the country’ to wanting denser populations & walkability – & where city finances aren’t held hostage by parking lots & roads. This #video highlights some good & bad things about #Valencia, Spain (aka my hopeful retirement locale), but what shocked me was the 80% home ownership figure, vs 65% in the US. Americans like me tend to associate #apartments (aka #flats) with renting, but not in Europe. There’s a better way of living, and I’d like to experience it. #CityNerd #NotJustBikes

brian eno creativity
We need more focus on ‘collective intelligence’ vs individual genius. Encouragement of collaboration & cross-pollination. Being around other creatives, in varied disciplines, is meaningful for the growth of one’s own #creativity. I recognize now that I lacked creative peers for most of my life so I was always flying solo, not getting ideas from others nor getting any useful feedback. My friends would sit around and watch movies while I preferred wandering the Metropolitan Museum of Art and seeing what caught my eye. #BrianEno #POSSE Photo credit

It’s morning coffee and reading time with this lovely lass and #ScottPilgrim (and yes, I’m totally psyched about the anime and am looking forward to seeing more from the #comics and more about the Evil Exes). #Cats #CatsOfMastodon #CaturdayEveryday #GraphicNovels
