ChatGPT writes like cheap SEO from India 🤦🏽‍♂️

One thing that really bugs me about #ChatGPT and #LLMs for #copywriting is they’ve been trained on a web full of crap articles written for #SEO purposes by people in #India who write in a forced style of conversational English. (NB: I’m #IndianAmerican.)

Their writing is oddly long with way too many filler phrases and ChatGPT copies this garbage to a T. The second I see any sentence online start with ‘As you know…’ or some other filler garbage I know where it originated.

Granted, how #Indians write English is just a variant of the garbage academic writing style in the US, which uses different and snootier filler phrases with even longer sentences. It’s writing meant to impress someone for a grade or a pat on the back, and it took me a couple of decades to write more concisely & to the point.

I just wish I could figure out how to get an LLM to understand wtf an adverb is because telling one ‘don’t use any adverbs’ or ‘rewrite that without adverbs’ does nothing.

Yesterday I thought about #Hemingway’s concise, adverb-free writing style and mentioned that in a prompt and got a poem in response 🤦🏽‍♂️

(Sadly I was too in the zone to appreciate the absurdity and lost the creative masterpiece when I edited the prompt.)

Hi, I’m Arp! I got diagnosed with ADHD at 49, and now I'm trying to figure out what's me, what's masking, and just about everything else. I make comics (when imposter syndrome isn't striking) and write about life as a creative Indian-American. I’m self-taught, self-employed, and self-flagellating.

teenage engineering ep 1320
This thing is ridiculous AND I MUST HAVE IT. I’ve long wanted a hardware sampler and the #TeenageEngineering –133 k.o.2 caught my attention for being feature-packed while being usable with batteries to reduce friction. But a version with #medieval #samples takes the cake! Years back I was really into #AgeOfEmpires and #Civilization so I’m tempted to use this to make a soundtrack for the different parts of my life (like when discovering agriculture or when I want to stab a neighboring principality in the back). Ad-driven social media platforms are willing to tolerate monumental volumes of abusive users. They’ve discovered the same thing the Mainstream Media did: negative emotions grip people’s attention harder than positive ones. Hate and fear drives engagement, and engagement drives ad impressions. #Mastodon is not an ad-driven platform. There is absolutely zero incentives to let awful people run amok in the name of engagement. @malwaretech@infosec.exchange My microcosmic validation of this is my wife asking 2-3 times in the past month if I’m aware of [something negative driving engagement] and my response has been ‘Nope, I don’t see anyone sharing that on the #Fediverse.’ I still use #BigMammoth (thx to @jensorensen@mastodon.social for that 😆) to keep up on politics daily so I’m aware of what’s going on. But the lack of an #algorithm or clear profit motive means the Negativity du Jour™ isn’t pushed to the forefront for everybody and comes to ...

Anyone else watch #TheBoys? The season finale was a doozy and hits too goddamn close to home. #Comics #USPolitics

Why the hell is #Estonia’s #Eurovision song stuck in my head?! Do I need to do some #Borat dancing to free myself from its clutches? #ESC #ESC2024 #Eurovision2024

There's nothing like having the #motivation to do something and then running into repeated unexpected issues that suck the motivation right out of you.
There’s nothing like having the #motivation to do something and then running into repeated unexpected issues that suck the motivation right out of you. I wish all of my technology would just fucking work consistently so I can focus on figuring out my processes for productivity instead of troubleshooting something that was working fine 2 days ago 🤬🤬🤬

Any #AppleiPad users notice an increase in weird little issues in the past few months?
Any #AppleiPad users notice an increase in weird little issues in the past few months? I’ve happily used a 2018 iPad Pro for the last 5 years but in the last few months there have been repeated weird issues. The iPad has always been rock solid until now, so I’m wondering if a recent iPadOS update messed things up (either intentionally or unintentionally by Apple) or if it’s just me. It’s definitely not a storage issue as I’ve got over 250gb (out of 512gb) free.
