ChatGPT writes like cheap SEO from India 🤦🏽‍♂️

One thing that really bugs me about #ChatGPT and #LLMs for #copywriting is they’ve been trained on a web full of crap articles written for #SEO purposes by people in #India who write in a forced style of conversational English. (NB: I’m #IndianAmerican.)

Their writing is oddly long with way too many filler phrases and ChatGPT copies this garbage to a T. The second I see any sentence online start with ‘As you know…’ or some other filler garbage I know where it originated.

Granted, how #Indians write English is just a variant of the garbage academic writing style in the US, which uses different and snootier filler phrases with even longer sentences. It’s writing meant to impress someone for a grade or a pat on the back, and it took me a couple of decades to write more concisely & to the point.

I just wish I could figure out how to get an LLM to understand wtf an adverb is because telling one ‘don’t use any adverbs’ or ‘rewrite that without adverbs’ does nothing.

Yesterday I thought about #Hemingway’s concise, adverb-free writing style and mentioned that in a prompt and got a poem in response 🤦🏽‍♂️

(Sadly I was too in the zone to appreciate the absurdity and lost the creative masterpiece when I edited the prompt.)

Arp Laszlo
Hi, I’m Arp! I got diagnosed with ADHD at 49, and now I'm trying to figure out what's me, what's masking, and just about everything else. I make comics (when imposter syndrome isn't striking) and write about life as a creative Indian-American. I’m self-taught, self-employed, and self-flagellating.

Some E-cards meme with a hand drawn graphic of a mustachioed office worker throwing some papers in the air with the words

ADHD
The energy to do anything.
The focus to accomplish nothing.
Too damn true 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

TIL that #Obsidian has a code inspector just like browsers, so I was able to fix the appearance of some #Todoist #tasks and make it look *exactly* as I wanted to, which filled me with much #joy. Obsidian is truly personalizable – maybe I need to learn how to make plug-ins to extend functionality (#coding has always been so abstract to me that I’ve never been able to follow through, I can do front end dev only because I like seeing changes visually). If you’re feeling limited by simple #notes apps like Apple Notes, I highly #recommend #ObsidianApp. It can be as simple or as complex as you like, and you can access your vault on phone, tablet, and desktop easily. #PKM #PersonalKnowledgeManagement #Recommendations

Hey – it’s #ADHDObsessionWednesday! I want to hear from my #adhd peeps: what’s your current obsession or passion? I’m still obsessed with #Mastodon, the #Fediverse, and the possibility of a better internet. So I added a bunch of #IndieWeb features to my new site. (I was gonna do this on Monday but… I got distracted & forgot 😆)

Failing #DollarStores is a good thing. Now if we could only change the entire concept of #stocks and #shareholders to prevent a ridiculous focus on growth & numbers to building sustainable #businesses that pay #LivingWages and are not focused on squeezing profit from a stone.

Do I really need to make reminders to myself for fun stuff?
One aspect of #adhd that’s irritating af is forgetting to do the things I want to do for fun. I don’t need to keep the not-fun stuff I do in my head so it can stay in a task manager but do I really need to make reminders to myself for things like ‘Read for fun while drinking coffee?’ 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️ #ADHDer #AdultADHD #ADHDLife

Green Day Dookie oral history illo by Harrison Freeman
These oral histories of #music I love will never get old. #GreenDay’s sense of humor was/is really important for me to be able to relate to them, which is why some of their post-American Idiot releases fell flat under the weight of their own seriousness. https://www.theringer.com/music/2024/5/16/24157483/green-day-dookie-oral-history-saviors-tour Also: if you haven’t listened to #TheMuffs, who they listened to a lot while recording #Dookie, you are missing out on an incredibly underrated band with the best screamer in the history of music.
