The brain’s frontal lobes, which are involved in ADHD, continue to mature until we reach age 35. In practical terms, this means that people with ADHD can expect some lessening of their symptoms over time. Many will not match the emotional maturity of a 21-year-old until their late 30’s. So while most people graduating from college take time to adjust to adult life, people with ADHD need more time, more family support, and more professional help.

Have you read this? It made me wonder how I managed to adult in the minimal capacity I could in my 20s & on – which consisted, tbh, in drinking too much #alcohol (a source of #dopamine & lowered #anxiety).

But I’m thinking more on how to best guide & support my kids (though without some of the punitive ideas like charging rent, the author is a dinosaur from the 60s).

Arp
Hi, I’m Arp! I got diagnosed with ADHD at 49, and now I'm trying to figure out what's me, what's masking, and just about everything else. I make comics (when imposter syndrome isn't striking) and write about life as a creative Indian-American. I’m self-taught, self-employed, and self-flagellating.

More Notes & Asides

Today might have been the most productive day I’ve had in a loooooong time. And not one of those *I’m hyperfocused so I work for 12h* days either. I knocked off a bunch of todos, worked 2h+ on one of my 2 big long term projects, upgraded a computer (that didn’t work, troubleshooting will be next weekend), and now it’s time to for some self care (bathing & grooming). #Vyvanse might be magic, or it might have been my new therapist last week. #adhd #AuADHD #AdultADHD

esc2024
Time to catch up on the #Eurovision semis after a ridiculously busy week! Unlike last year I’ve only listened to each song once so the performances are going to be like new songs for me, except for #Croatia (the only melody that stayed in my head).

Logan Paul & Rhea Ripley are wearing baggy 2000 era pants now. We can finally stick a fork in the skinny jeans era 🥳🥳🥳 #WWE #ProWrestling

ChatGPT writes like cheap SEO from India 🤦🏽‍♂️
One thing that really bugs me about #ChatGPT and #LLMs for #copywriting is they’ve been trained on a web full of crap articles written for #SEO purposes by people in #India who write in a forced style of conversational English. (NB: I’m #IndianAmerican.) Their writing is oddly long with way too many filler phrases and ChatGPT copies this garbage to a T. The second I see any sentence online start with ‘As you know…’ or some other filler garbage I know where it originated. Granted, how #Indians write English is just a variant of the garbage academic writing style in the US, which uses different and snootier filler phrases with even longer sentences. It’s writing meant to impress someone for a grade or a pat on the back, and it took me a couple of decades to write more concisely & to the point. I just wish I could figure ...

blog.cara.app site status & known issues — cara artist social & portfolio platform 2024 06 07 13
If anyone has wondered why there have been so few attempts at alternatives to #Facebook #Instagram #Youtube et al the situation with #Cara illustrates why: it’s expensive AF to host a site with a shit ton of users and files. One busy week added $96,280 to their hosting bill – and that will only increase. https://techcrunch.com/2024/06/06/a-social-app-for-creatives-cara-grew-from-40k-to-650k-users-in-a-week-because-artists-are-fed-up-with-metas-ai-policies

teenage engineering ep 1320
This thing is ridiculous AND I MUST HAVE IT. I’ve long wanted a hardware sampler and the #TeenageEngineering –133 k.o.2 caught my attention for being feature-packed while being usable with batteries to reduce friction. But a version with #medieval #samples takes the cake! Years back I was really into #AgeOfEmpires and #Civilization so I’m tempted to use this to make a soundtrack for the different parts of my life (like when discovering agriculture or when I want to stab a neighboring principality in the back). 1. @arpcomics “I’d go out and buy an expensive car and make the first payment, but that was it. My Dad would always have to pay the rest.” That tells me all I need to know about Betsy (and it has nothing to do with her having ADHD).

  2. @NorthByNorthWeston Good point. That was a bit much and I agree it’s not adhd. ADHD would be paying the bills late and ending up with fees & fines.I’ve also never bought an expensive car because my adhd means I can’t just work at a job, play the social game, get promoted/find a better job, et al.
