Social Media

These are my social media posts & updates. I write them here, and they are copied to my Mastodon and/or Pixelfed accounts. Magically, comments are imported from the Fediverse too. This is one way to take control back from venture-capital backed aggregator sites.

vhs lofi audio
This is fascinating, especially if you’re into #lofi music & sounds. Now I’m tempted to buy a VCR just for recording & mucking up #audio (this will be done in my non-existent free time 😆). How much do you want to bet that #BoardsOfCanada did this years ago? #Music #VHS #RetroSounds

joann sfar vampire love book cover
Sunday morning coffee reading: this caught my eye at the #library yesterday and the description sealed the deal. It’s weird, and funny, and interesting – and again makes me wonder why I can’t draw with imperfections like it. I wish I’d been exposed to a wider world of #comics when I was younger, outside of #Tintin. Superheroes overshadowed everything in the US by the 80s, despite the popularity of Archie and all the Gold Key comics that I enjoyed reading. #Vampires #BD #BandeDessinee #JoannSfar

One of the true joys of #MiddleAge: waking up at 4:30am because you worked out a little too hard yesterday, your body aches all over, and somehow that shit wakes you up 🤦🏽‍♂️

Meme of Keenan Thompson pretending to be Steve Harvey hosting Family Feud, looking perturbed af. It looks like the show, with the questions & answers on screen. Title: My ADHD Question & Answers: How to have a conversation? A: interrupt them C: zone out B: trip over your words D: get really excited about the topic and freak them out
I need an option E: not saying anything because I can’t figure out when is the right time to speak 😆 #ADHD #ADHDAdult #ADHDMemes #Memes

I recently fulfilled a lifelong dream by running all the way, in the wrong direction, on a people mover in an #airport. When I was a kid I felt too self-conscious but not anymore 😆 I didn’t record the run (I just wanted to enjoy it) but the video has some outtakes, including my kid who had never been on a people mover before. Sometimes #adhd impulsiveness is good for a quick little bonding experience with a kid 🙂 (I did however wait til it was not in use before the run.) #DreamsComeTrue

X-men 2000 movie poster. The poster is divided into 5 columns, broken up by a black band with ‘X-MEN’ in the middle. Above & below the word, each column shows a partial face of 10 different characters.
We watched the 2000 #Xmen movie last night. The technology was a bit dated, as expected. The cgi was pretty good for the era, but I really wish they’d used a character besides Toad, who I find gimmicky. The story holds up, and holds up a mirror too. I always liked that they went straight for using the Mutant Registration Act as the main storyline instead of an origin tale. Has X-men historically appealed to LGBTQ comic lovers who could relate to their struggles for acceptance? The protests & attitudes against mutants also made me think of the trans community today, and the genocide the GOP & their fascist kin are attempting with all their laws, dog whistles, and stochastic terrorism. The #movie feels quaint, compared to modern times where these people do much, much worse than protest with signs. #movies #comics #comicbooks

Just completed a #WeeklyReview for the first time ever, after spending a couple of weeks wrangling with #Obsidian & the Templater plugin (and reading too many how to posts from people who all do things differently). I’m finding daily notes helpful for thinking about what I want to get done and clear my head early in the day, and the weekly review is something I’ve been putting off for a couple of years until I had a process that made sense (mad props to Obsidian for being the vehicle for this) #Productivity is such a challenge with #adhd because 99% of the neurotypical advice just doesn’t work for us. So it’s a struggle not only finding something that might work, but tweaking it until it makes sense for my specific brain. #PKM #Neurodiversity #AdultADHD #ADHDer

I met an old friend from college for the first time in over a decade last weekend, and it was good to see that some things don’t change, despite time & distance. Recently they invited me to join a group chat w/ other college acquaintances, which I declined because why would I willfully chat with people just because we went to the same school for a bit? My friend said that everyone else had given up and accepted their lot in life. Most are neurotypical and some judged me for not studying or being serious enough. Who wants to be surrounded by people who feel like that? 2 things I’ve learned about my #adhd: 1) I never run out of ideas so there’s always something keeping things interesting (the big problem is sorting through them), and 2) my persistence is fierce. I guess having a sketchy memory and being easily distracted has some benefits 😂 #ADHDer #AdultADHD #Neurodiversity

Minibus with Kurt Cobain Portrait - Bhaktapur - Nepal Date:28 March 2014, 23:26
I remember the day #KurtCobain died so clearly. It was April 5, 1994; I was a senior at #NorthwesternUniversity. I had no classes that day. I woke up, showered, and put on combat boots, brown linen pants, black t shirt & my #SocialDistortion Skelly hat. (Why I recall my outfit I have no idea.) I heard on the radio that they ‘found a body’ in Cobain’s house & didn’t think much of it. I figured somebody had OD’d and maybe it was him – but prolly not because he should be happy with his phenomenal success, no? I walked over to a friends’ apartment. We were hanging out & drinking MGD when the real news came out. We were stunned. I have no recollection what the rest of the day was like, what we talked about or anything. I wish he’d gotten the help he needed. Photo by Adam Jones. #RIPKurtCobain #POSSE

YouTube served this up to me this morning and watching it was trippy AF! Also head-wobble inducing, I can’t help myself when I find myself agreeing with someone speaking Bengali or Hindi 😆 I am #Bengali and didn’t speak English until I was 5, despite being born in the US. We spent 1/2 the year in #Kolkata #India until I was 8 and were immersed in the #NewYorkCity #Indian community when in the States. The #Bangla voice actors seemed pretty true to the Western characters, except for Peter B. Parker, whose exhaustion was ignored in favor of a happy-go-lucky dad. They changed his tired “I have a baby” to a happy “Yes, a very sweet baby!” 🤦🏽‍♂️ I want to see this in Bengali, to see the different choices they made for acting & emotions. And maybe with the captions on, because I have the vocabulary of a 10 year old #Indian kid. #IndianAmerican #IntoTheSpiderverse #AcrossTheSpiderverse #Movies #Trailer #POSSE

O M G this looks emotional and compelling. The first movie blew my mind so much that I didn’t even notice that #MilesMorales did not have his tragedy yet. Not only does the #animation look gorgeous but now the whole chased by the League of Spider-people (I just made that up AND said it in Lucas Lee’s voice) thing makes more sense. Looks like this one will live up to the first #movie (which I saw 3x in the theatre) and I MUST see it in #IMAX again. Interestingly, YouTube served up the #Indian #trailer for me first and there are some HUGE differences compared to the US version. They focused completely on drama, with a couple of laughs thrown in. No mention of The Spot. And tied it into the live action movies to clue newcomers in. They know what sells in #Bollywood! It was one of the things that helped me decide to get checked and found it I had it too and getting on medication to help with it has just been nothing but awesome for me. So thank you! Have a great day! Btw love the pet bird stories too!
This made my day! I’m glad that posting and sharing about #adhd helped someone out – and they love our birb too 🙂 #AdultADHD #ADHDer #LateDX

Myths formulate things for you. They say, for example, that you have to become an adult at a particular age. The age might be a good average for that to happen––but actually, in the individual life, it differs greatly. Some people are late bloomers and come to particular stages at a relatively late age. You have to have a feeling for where you are. You've got only one life to live, and you don't have to live it for six people. Pay attention to it. (Joseph Campbell)
This #quote from #JosephCampbell came up on my #birthday years ago but this year it hits differently. It put into words what I felt but couldn’t articulate. After recently reading how #ADHD brains mature at a much different rate than neurotypical brains, it’s a little 🤯🤯🤯. Maybe #mythology hearkened to me on a much deeper level than I ever expected. My understanding of how different I am from ‘the norm’ has only happened in the past 2 years. Yet I always celebrated being different, and decided long ago that striving to be like everyone else was a Bad Thing. It still took years for me to listen to myself (it was a gradual process), but that’s fine. Little shifts in perspective add up over time until one day you find that you’ve done a 180 and are swimming against the flow. To all my fellow #ADHDers & #neurodiverse peeps out there: Take your time. Be true to yourself. You’ve got this. #ADHDMemes #Neurodivergent #Neurodiversity #Wisdom

This is an INCREDIBLE little #film. I love #stopmotion #animation (#Laika > #Pixar, all day every day and twice on Sunday). It’s so real and tangible, with a sense of space, depth, and light that CGI just can’t capture. But I didn’t know how bad-ass #fighting in stop-motion could be. The world needs more stop-motion fight sequences. #Video #Hidari #Samurai #FightChoreography #川村真司 初監督作品 #whatever #ドワーフ #TECARAT

Here’s what I did in #Obsidian to make the #Todoist #tasks display better: I indented subtasks and made the meta smaller, inline, and with reduced opacity that increases on hover. Purty and useful 🙂 #ObsidianApp #PKM #TaskManagement

TIL that #Obsidian has a code inspector just like browsers, so I was able to fix the appearance of some #Todoist #tasks and make it look *exactly* as I wanted to, which filled me with much #joy. Obsidian is truly personalizable – maybe I need to learn how to make plug-ins to extend functionality (#coding has always been so abstract to me that I’ve never been able to follow through, I can do front end dev only because I like seeing changes visually). If you’re feeling limited by simple #notes apps like Apple Notes, I highly #recommend #ObsidianApp. It can be as simple or as complex as you like, and you can access your vault on phone, tablet, and desktop easily. #PKM #PersonalKnowledgeManagement #Recommendations

coddiwomple (v.) to travel in a purposeful manner towards a vague destination.
#TIL that there’s a word that describes my whole damn life 😆 Except my ‘purposeful manner’ zigged and zagged a lot. No real destination in mind, just ideas of where I thought I wanted to go – or where I thought I should (🤦🏽‍♂️) be going. Some of this is #adhd related (like half-heartedly doing things I had no interest in) and some is not (school teaches you to not listen to yourself because Other People Know Better). But I would like to correct course and have a destination in mind for once. Also: ‘Coddiwomple’ is an incredible word. #Language can be so much fun! #Vocabulary #TIL #WordOfTheDay
